For my class in particular the stuffed stockings can be used for sensory output. The stockings can be used in place of standard writing utensils during language arts as they can be manipulated in many forms. Overall, I can see the stockings being used for multiple activities throughout the day from letter forming, to counting and color identification as well as an object to be used by students with sensory needs.
My class would benefit from working together to fill the stockings. We work a lot on peer to peer communication and this is a good activity to engage with peers while gaining sensory input.
Students will demonstrate improvement in number sense due to counting the number of tissue paper that is stuffed in the stocking. They will also improve in the knowledge of colors because will talk about colors.
Students were challenged to crumple the tissue into tight balls. This was good for fine motor. This was a great activity for learning to name colors and counting how many balls they stuffed into the stockings.
