    EASEy 😉

I would have the student pass a talking device such as a small “talking Brix” or you could pass a “big mac” talking device between the students. This way the students are able to pass a communication device around that has a pre-programmed vocabulary word on it.

I believe one of the most important things for non-verbal students is to make eye contact. This reminds the student to look at people’s faces. Use flash cards; may also be helpful to put the relevant sign on the back of photo as a reference. You can also use photo communication tools to pre-teach the student about passing the object.

I agree with Patience, the ability to have the students give even a small amount of eye contact is essential. Having children be able to look at you (or the object) even for a second is progress, and being able to have them comply with a task or simple command is essential. The thing that has worked best for me is being able to have children do things repeatedly and be able to do things without even thinking about it also is a special task. Working with children that are non-verbal it can sometimes be difficult to fully do many assignments as they are written out but with some small tweaking and a lot of verbal support from the adults within the classroom all activities can be implemented and achieved.

I think using eye gaze for the nonverbal students would be a good modification.  Also, AAC or AT devices they are used to.  Or you can have each of them hold the same item/object but use a flashlight to  shine it on the next student to show “passing the object”.
