    You can have the students interact through utilization of chanting encouragement or the student’s names, clapping, or other means to cheer along their classmates.

    Thank you for the suggestion. I will try to keep them engaged with keeping their hands  busy.

    I really like the suggestion of having the students cheer, chant, or simply say the active students name.  Depending on the activity making sure they have something in their hands is also helpful.  I did the EASE activity Bean Bags with my class and I have allowed them to keep the bean bags they made close at hand if they need to wait for their turn or even during school assemblies or class assignments that may be more challenging for my kiddos that need to learn to wait.  Incorporating your own positive behavior support strategies also helps keep kids at bay.  Telling them they are waiting nicely.  Giving high fives or stickers, or using token systems usually help them to lengthen their wait time and patience.
