Step-by-Step Instructions
Using the Voice: Echoing (for verbal students)
a.“Listen” while pointing to self
b. Leader says word or phrase.
Sample words or phrases:
• “Hello!”
• “Hungry.”
• “Nose.”
• “I am at school.”
• “I like ice cream.”
• “I feel great!”
a. “Now you say it!” while pointing to others
b. Others repeat word or phrase
a.Leader says same word or phrase, but changes voice
For example:
• loudly/quietly
• quickly/slowly
• in a high squeaky voice /deep low voice
b. Others follow
Drop verbal prompts and use only pointing if students are able to follow with only these cues.
Using the Body: Copy an Action
A very easy way to make a stage area is to make a masking tape rectangle on the floor.
Whoever will be copying the leader’s action is told ahead of time so they can pay extra attention!
“In a minute, ________ will repeat what I’m going to do.”
a. “Watch me”
b. Leader performs action on stage
For example:
• walk over and touch the wall
• open and look through a book
• jog in a circle
• put crayons into a bin
• put on a hat
• go to the window and point outside
It is very important that none of these activities be mimed; i.e., if the action is “opening a book,” you open a real book, not a pretend one.
a. “Now you do it, ______”
b. Selected player copies action on stage
Remember to clap and cheer at the end of each “performance”!
Help students keep the action relatively short, so it can be easily copied.
