During our morning greetings, students can pass the “hi” single cell button to each other.  Students can turn and say hi to the student next to them.

I see many opportunities to use Pass the Object. So many times in the classroom materials, snacks, papers, etc. need to be distributed. Why not use them as a way to reinforce those social and emotional  learning skills? Get that eye contact. That hand to hand passing. That use of polite words. Building blocks for healthy social behavior.

I recently got Ukuleles from “Guitars in the Classroom”. We practice “hugging” the Uke and passing to partners. After that, we “strum” then pass. Students are encouraged to practice saying, “My turn, your turn” to help them with transitioning.

we use pass the object as a way to gather facts and opinions about our students. for example, we pass the object and students have to say something about “Student A”. “Student A” will hear nine cool facts about him/herself. its a great time for students to hear what there friends say about them.

During our cookshop classes, we used this activity a lot to explore the new or familiar foods we were cooking with. Each student was given an opportunity to touch, feel, look at and smell or even shake each ingredient. After which that student decided who they wanted to pass the item to next.
