Go and Stop: Master the Basics – Discussion

Step-by-Step Instructions
Make sure you have a card with “GO” on both sides, and a card with “STOP” on both sides.
For example, “When show you the “GO” card, clap your hands!”
After the class masters clapping, try:
- stomping feet
- tapping desks
- rubbing hands together
- tapping knees
- scratching desk
- animal sounds (moo, meow, etc.)
The leader holds up “GO” card (“STOP” card stays behind their back). Add verbal prompts as appropriate. Players make the sound chosen in Step 1.

Repeat Steps 2-3 a few times, varying the timing to make it interesting.
Repeat steps 1-4 with a new leader (for example, a student), and/or a new sound.
Instead of sounds, you can also play Go and Stop using silent movements. This is more advanced.
Silent Movement Options:
- wiggling fingers
- wiggling toes
- shaking hands in the air
- shrugging shoulders
- nodding head
- shaking head
