Step-by-Step Instructions
Freezedance with Xes
Students work in partners to put masking tape X-es on the floor (see Masking Tape Partnering for instructions).
Make one X per player. Placement of X-es can be random, but don’t put them too close together.

Additional work may be needed to help students be aware of their X.
You may want to practice “stand on the X” — “stand off the X” — “point to the X,” etcetera.
Use specific body movement prompts (e.g., “Move your hands!”) if the “dance” instruction is not understood.
Everyone freezes!
Everyone must leave their X and find a new one.
Since you made an X for all players, no one will be left out!
Everyone dances on their new X, and switches again when the music stops.
Freezedance with Directions
Use whatever additional prompts needed.
Use whatever additional prompts needed to help students freeze.
Sample directions:
• “Jump” – students jump once
• “Look at _______” – name objects or people for students to look at
• “Point at ________” – name objects or people for students to point at
• “Wave to ________” – name people for students to wave to
• “Touch fingers” – students touch their finger to another person’s finger
• “Touch elbows” (or knees, feet, etc.) – same as with touching fingers
Do it some more! It’s fun!
