Step-by-Step Instructions
Creating Mural
This is a group activity; groups can be 2-12 people. Participants sit at a table with the poster board on it.

If using coloured tape, offer a choice of tape colors to Student A.
(This activity can also be done with regular beige masking tape.)
Students A and B work together to get a piece of tape.
It is important that they follow good Masking Tape Partnering protocol! (See the Masking Tape Partnering lesson for more details.)

This works best when the partners are sitting across from one another.
Students A and B work together to put their tape on the poster board.
Everyone else joins them in saying “Boooooooooop!”

Repeat the process, adding to the poster board to create an abstract mural.
Pairs add tape pieces one at a time, while others watch and “Boop.”

Decorating Mural
Students decorate their mural, working on different parts of it at the same time.
It works well to give students only one marker each, to encourage trading and sharing.
After students decorate the mural for a few minutes, ask everyone to rotate the poster board or canvas so they are working on a new area. Repeat this process every few minutes.
OR – Rotate people – Instead of rotating the mural, you can have each child move to a new seat around the mural.
Every so often, remind students to trade markers with their peers in order to use different colors.
Once the poster board is mostly or entirely covered with colouring from the markers, students can work together to pull up the tape.
